The Witness Box™ Model S9 Seismic Recorder

Seismic events affect structures of every type: bridges, highways, buildings and other facilities are all vulnerable to damage during earthquakes. Monitoring the actual forces sustained by the structure itself (as opposed to simply the measured force of the quake) is key to protecting structural assets and enhancing public safety.

Wide-scale monitoring of structural assets using seismic sensors has long been considered cost-prohibitive and maintenance-intensive. What's more, seismic sensors require external power for optimal operation, and those costs can even surpass the initial hardware investment. It's not surprising that, forced to choose between security and economy, most building operators choose not to adopt systems designed to protect structural assets from seismic activity.

To meet this need, Independent Witness Inc. has developed the Witness Box™ Asset Protection System for structural assets. The Witness Box™  records time, date, intensity, and direction of seismic activity to precisely determine structural stress and damage.
