About Independent Witness

IWI was founded in 1997 by Scott McClellan, an engineer with more than ten years accident reconstruction experience.

Mr. McClellan realized the tremendous need for objective evidence when dealing with personal injury claims resulting from automobile accidents. He had seen his fair share of fraudulent and exaggerated claims during the course of his years in the courtroom. In fact, fraud adds $200-$300 per year to every vehicles auto insurance premium. Until now, there has never been a practical, affordable way to reduce or eliminate these claims.

Scott McClellan founded Independent Witness, and after three years of research and development, launched the Witness™, black box technology for personal and fleet vehicles.

The Witness™ objectively measures the magnitude and direction of the forces experienced in a collision (or other event). Real-time, objective information can be used to accurately decide insurance and courtroom claims.

Since the first Witness™ black box release, our revolutionary and patented event data recorders have been adapted and refined for uses such as seismic activity recording, and cost effective monitoring of products being shipped or transported.
